Pleasant Grove Wins 6A Baseball Title In Extra Innings

OREM, Utah – It took extra innings, but finally Pleasant Grove was able to get it done to win the 6A baseball state title with a 5-4 win over Lone Peak.
In the bottom of the ninth, with the scored knotted up at 4-all, the Vikings began their magical inning with a single by Brock Watkins. That was followed by a walk by Jake Fryer. Payton Norman was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Needing just one run to clinch the title, Jackson Hill drew a walk to bring home the championship run.
Pandemonium ensued as the Vikings celebrated their fifth state championship with the win.

It was fitting that Watkins scored the final run of the final game, he had been terrific in the title game showdown. He went 4-for-5 from the plate with an RBI while crossing the plate himself three times in the win.
Kreed Trane earned the win for the Vikings while Cade Walker was credited with the loss for Lone Peak.

Pleasant Grove won the championship after marching through the double-elimination tournament unscathed. The Vikings beat the Knights 12-0 on Monday to force them into the one-loss bracket.
The Knights battled back to the title game with wins over American Fork, Fremont and then Syracuse. They needed to beat Pleasant Grove twice to win state, but the Vikings got the job done in just one game on Friday night.
Pleasant Grove capped off its championship season with a 22-8 record. Lone Peak finished the year with a 17-13 mark.
