Rimando Keeping RSL Alive Against LAFC

SANDY, Utah – LAFC held a 1-0 lead over Real Salt Lake after the first half of their U.S. Open Cup match, but goalkeeper Nick Rimando was doing his part to keep his team close.
Despite giving up an early goal to Major League Soccer’s best goalscorer in Carlos Vela in the eighth minute, Rimando had some great moments in the rest of the half.
Rimando made on stop on another well struck ball by Vela in the 32nd minute, and then another stop on a close shot by Christian Ramirez near the end of the half.

Even though he’s missed some time due to injury this season, Rimando has been solid for RSL this season. Prior to the start of the year, he announced on Twitter that this year would be his last season in professional soccer.
The MLS record holder in nearly every goalkeeping statistic, the “Wall of the Wasatch” has been with the club since 2006, when he was acquired from D.C. United.
RSL took the pitch without the guidance of head coach Mike Petke, who was away from the team receiving a coaching certificate in Minnesota.
The home team was also without the services of usual starters Albert Rusnak and Jefferson Savarino, who are both away on international duty.
The match between Real Salt Lake and LAFC is being shown on ESPN+.
