SALT LAKE CITY – The John Watson Northern Utah High School Player of the Week is celebrating the best high school football player in Northern Utah. Presented by John Watson Chevrolet in Ogden, each week we honor athletes for their exceptional performance on the gridiron. Our co-winners of the week were Tillman Thomas from Layton High School and Dontae Dyson from Northridge High School.
Northern Utah Players of the Week – Tillman Thomas & Dontae Dyson
Thomas the Layton Lancers opened the 6A Playoffs with a matchup against Cedar Valley High School. Thomas caught fire early as he threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter and led Layton a commanding 28-3 halftime lead. He would a third touchdown pass late to complete the Lancers’ scoring as they won 41-16. He finished the game with 336 passing yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
Dyson and the Northridge Knights mad the trek south to Pleasant Groce High School to open the 5A Playoffs. They capitalized on explosivve plays to extend their season as Dyson returned a kickoff 95 yards to even the game 7-7 immediately after the Vikings had taken an early lead. He later added a 73-yard touchdown pass as the Knights went on to win 21-7. He finished the game with three receptions for 79 yards and one touchdown while adding his kick return touchdown and two tackles.
