BYU Basketball Climbs AP Top 25, Sets Up Top 10 Clash With UConn

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball moved up slightly in the second AP Top 25 poll of the 2025-26 season.

The Cougars moved up from No. 8 to No. 7 in the latest rankings after a perfect week that saw BYU take down Villanova in Las Vegas and Holy Cross at home.

It remains the highest ranking for BYU since the 2011 season, which featured National Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette.

Along with making a slight jump in the ranking, another notable piece to this week’s AP Top 25 is that BYU’s upcoming opponent, UConn, also moved up a spot. UConn moved up from No. 4 to No. 3 in the AP Top 25.

BYU will host the Delaware Blue Hens on Tuesday, November 11, before traveling to Boston to face the Huskies, in a game that will be a homecoming for the Cougars’ star freshman, AJ Dybantsa, a native of Brockton, Massachusetts.

BYU and UConn have never met in the regular season. The two programs last met in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament.

The last time BYU basketball played in a Top 10 matchup was on March 12, 2011, when the Cougars faced San Diego State in the Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship Game. It was the third Top 10 matchup of the season between BYU and San Diego State.
