Utah County High School Player of the Week – Week 14 – Lopeti Moala Jr.

SALT LAKE CITY – The Mr. Mac Utah County High School Player of the Week is awarded each week to the top prep football players in Utah County. It honors athletes for their performances on the gridiron and exceptional play. Our winner this week was Orem High School’s Lopeti “Juni” Moala Jr.

Utah County Player of the Week – Lopeti Moala Jr., Orem

Moala and the Orem Tigers faced off against West High School in the 5A Semifinals last week at Rice-Eccles Stadium. While it was a highly-anticipated showdown between two of the top teams in the class, Orem made sure they were the dominant force in the matchup. The Tigers scored on their first three possessions of the game while Moala and the Orem defense smothered the Panthers’ offense to the tune of West having minus-2 yards at the end of the quarter.

Orem went on cruise control from that point on as Moala and his teammates on the Orem defense sacked West High’s quarterbacks eight times and tallied 15 tackles for loss in the game. Orem tacked on two more second half touchdowns in the rout, one of them going to Moala on a two-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, as they punched their ticket to the 5A State Championship Game with a 34-7 victory. Moala finished the game with 8 tackles, 3 TFL, 1.5 sacks and a touchdown reception.
