SALT LAKE CITY – After awkwardly colliding with the goal post in an attempt to score against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night, the Utah Mammoth reported on Monday that Logan Cooley will be ‘out indefinitely’ with a lower body injury.
Here’s everything we know.
Late in the third period against the Vancouver Canucks, Cooley was held by defenseman Quinn Hughes as he worked his way towards the net and effectively established the inside lane.
Recognizing he was beaten, Hughes then held Cooley to avoid a Grade A scoring chance which caused 92 to collide with the post at a relatively high speed.
While he stayed down for a moment, Cooley was able to make his way to the bench under his own power and even returned to the ice on the ensuing power play.
However, with the game mostly secured, 92 was then held out of the final 3:09 in Vancouver and did not play against Calgary on Saturday.

The good news for 92?
As of now, it has not been deemed as season ending.
The bad?
The injury looked brutal as his leg awkwardly wrapped around the post and will obviously keep him sidelined for a notable amount of time.
“For Cools, unfortunately will be missing some time,” Head coach Andre Tourigny explained.
“Every team is going through adversity. It’s an opportunity for someone else to step up. Hayton is back in the lineup…But did good since he’s been called up. Next man up.”
With Cooley out, Barrett Hayton will likely continue to play on the second line alongside Dylan Guenther and Daniil But.
Through 29 games, Cooley registered 14 goals and nine assists for the Mammoth.
After months of negotiations, the Utah Mammoth and Logan Cooley finally settled on a new contract extension that will see Cooley in a Mammoth sweater through the 2034 season.
With an Average Annual Value of $10M, the Mammoth locked Cooley up at a very reasonable number given his undeniable superstar potential and the rapidly rising NHL cap.
Notably, they were also able to sign him to a max term of eight years which is significant as the max term next season will only be seven seasons.

The atmosphere at the Delta Center in front of our fans is unreal and Ryan and Ashley Smith have given our team every resource to succeed, which is all you can ask for as a player.
“We have an opportunity to do something special here thanks to the incredible people in the organization. This is an awesome day for me and my family, and I am proud to commit to the state of Utah and to the Mammoth.”
Following his 65-point season a year ago and sudden breakout performance to begin the new year (12 points in 11 games), this is a huge win for the Mammoth as they’ve locked up the primary piece of their future to a max extension at a great price.
