BYU basketball guard Rob Wright III hit a game-winner to deliver a memorable win over Clemson in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.

In a game where BYU trailed the Tigers by 22 points and looked to be down and out, the Cougars turned it up in the second half.

BYU stormed back, and with 1.4 seconds remaining, the game was tied at 64. Coming out of a timeout, BYU drew up a play call for sophomore star Rob Wright III, and the heralded transfer portal guard delivered.

Wright buried a three-pointer while fading to his right at the horn to give No. 10 BYU a 67-64 win over Clemson.

The win improves BYU’s record to 8-1 overall and marks its fifth consecutive victory.

Wright finished the game with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 36 minutes of action.

However, the night belonged to star freshman AJ Dybantsa, who put BYU on his back, scoring a career-high 28 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out six assists.

BYU closed the half, giving up a 21-0 run to Clemson, and trailed the Tigers 43-22 at the half. Then they opened the second half with two turnovers, allowing Clemson to build its lead to 22 points.

Led by Dybantsa, Wright, and center Keba Keita, BYU chipped away at the deficit. They grabbed the lead with 3:17 remaining in the game after a Keita slam dunk on an alley-oop from AJ Dybantsa that was BYU’s first lead since it was 17-15.

BYU basketball improves to 8-1 overall

Clemson, who cooled off completely in the second half, started to knock down shots to counter BYU’s big run. But ultimately, the Cougars came out victorious at basketball’s “Mecca” with a Rob Wright III three-pointer at the buzzer.

Next up for BYU basketball is a return to the Marriott Center after 32 days away, where they will host UC Riverside on Saturday, December 13. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ and KSL NewsRadio.
