Utah Women’s Basketball Heads To Kansas City, Big 12 Tournament

SALT LAKE CITY— The bracket is set. The stage is familiar. And for Gavin Peterson and his Utah squad, the Big 12 Tournament presents an opportunity to extend the season, walking into Kansas City knowing exactly where it stands.
The Utes are headed to the 2026 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament at the T-Mobile Center, as the No. 8 seed, earning a first-round bye and a Thursday afternoon tip to open their postseason run.

Utah’s path in the Big 12 Tournament
Utah will play at 12:30 p.m. MT on March 5 against the winner of No. 9 BYU and No. 16 Houston. Rivalry chaos is on the table. So is a clean path to make noise.
As the No. 8 seed, Utah avoided Wednesday’s opening round and slots directly into Game 6 of the bracket.
If the Utes advance:

They would face No. 1 TCU in the quarterfinals.

A semifinal berth would likely require knocking off one of the conference’s heavyweights.

The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m. MT on ESPN — unless BYU advances, which would shift the final to Monday.
There’s no soft side of this bracket. This is a very competitive league top-to-bottom. The Big 12 is one of just two conferences nationally with 75% of its teams ranked inside the top 60 of the NET. Night-to-night, you’re playing NCAA Tournament-level competition.

Utah’s tournament hopes on the bubble
The Utes entered the final stretch of the regular season with more than conference pride on the line — they had NCAA Tournament hopes on life support.
A late-season loss to BYU not only stung from a rivalry perspective but also pushed Utah into “first team out” territory on bracket projections, putting their March résumé in jeopardy.
Now, after a very valuable win over Colorado in Boulder and a big victory on Senior Night, the Utes head into Kansas City with a little more pep in their step.
Balanced production, need players to step up
Utah’s identity this season hasn’t been one superstar dominating every night — it’s been distributed production and rounds of contributions from across the rotation. That’s reflected clearly in the stat sheet.
Senior guard Lani White leads Utah at about 15.2 points per game, making her the clear go-to offensive option. White’s ability to score from inside and on the perimeter gives Utah a reliable engine when possessions matter most.
Reese Ross is the team’s top rebounder at about 8.7 boards per game, anchoring the glass and often converting second-chance opportunities into offense.
Freshman guard LA Sneed has emerged as the assist catalyst, averaging 3.4 assists per game, leading a Utah offense that has average over 16 assists per game this season.
Maty Wilke does it all and supplies defensive energy with roughly 1.8 steals per contest, showing Utah can create turnovers and convert them into transition offense.
Tournament play always requires players to step up and elevate their games. The Utes will need that this week to accomplish what they need to improve their NCAA Tournament hopes.
