SALT LAKE CITY – Prehistoric beasts once again roam Utah as the Mammoth introduced the ‘Zammoth,’ a retrofitted Zamboni that has been transformed into a vehicle for fans to ride around the ice pregame and during intermissions at future home games.

Using the frame of a Zamboni from the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics that had been sitting in the basement of the Delta Center, The Mammoth-themed Zamboni was designed and built in collaboration with the Utah-based Diesel Brothers, who are well-known for customizing large, high-performance vehicles.

“We needed the backbone of a Zamboni and as we started asking around, someone raised their hand at the arena and was like, ‘Well hold on a second. We actually have something that ties this incredible history of the arena to what we’re trying to accomplish,'” Smith Entertainment Group President of Revenue and Commercial Strategy, Chris Barney said.
“How cool that the DNA from the Olympics is actually in the body of the Zammoth.”
Inspired by the Columbus Blue Jackets ‘Boomboni’ as well as Florida’s fan Zamboni, the Mammoth wanted to provide a similar experience while putting their own creative spin on it.
Thus, a Mammoth themed Zamboni was born.
“It’s just one more example of us being totally dedicated to the fan experience,” Barney added.
“Sometimes the best ideas are found from other people and then taking them and kind of putting them on steroids. You don’t always have to innovate a brand-new idea. There’s great ideas out there that you can take and add your own flare to it.”
While the Zammoth won’t ever clean the ice, the resurrected Zamboni will carry up to eight (8) riders pregame and during intermissions at Utah Mammoth home games.
This new fan experience will feature special effects, custom lighting, a sound system, a 3D printed trunk and of course, tusks.
Specifics on how to ride the Zammoth will be announced at a later date.
After making its debut against the Oilers on Tuesday, the Zammoth will then be staged in the Delta Center plaza over the next few games for fans to see up close.
The Utah Mammoth will continue their three-game homestand against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night at 7 p.m. MT.
The game will be available on Mammoth+.
All Mammoth games will also be broadcast live on the KSL Sports Zone (97.5 FM/1280 AM).
