Corner Canyon safety Diesel Dart commits to Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah football’s recruiting momentum from its latest official visit weekend continued with another in-state commit.

Corner Canyon safety Diesel Dart has announced his commitment to the Utes, becoming the third pledge from last weekend’s group of official visitors and giving Morgan Scalley’s staff another local prospect heading into the final weekend of official visits.

For Utah, the addition of Dart to the class matters on multiple levels. He is a local prospect from one of the state’s premier high school programs, a defensive back with two-way experience, a legacy connection and another example of the Utes keeping traction with in-state players during a critical stretch of the recruiting calendar.

Another Local Win For Utah

Dart had been one of the more notable local names on Utah’s board, and his commitment gives the Utes another defensive piece with developmental upside.

The 2027 safety out of Corner Canyon is listed by On3/Rivals as a 6-foot-2, 175-pound safety and is rated as a three-star prospect. His 247Sports profile lists him as a two-way player for a Corner Canyon team that went 12-1 and captured the Utah 6A championship during his junior season.

As a junior, Dart was credited by 247Sports with 48 tackles, five pass breakups, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 12 games on defense. He also contributed on offense, catching seven passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

What Dart Brings

Dart projects best as a safety, but his offensive experience matters.

Players who have spent time at wide receiver often bring a better feel for route timing, spacing, ball skills and how quarterbacks want to attack coverage. For a defensive back, that can translate.

Dart has shown the ability to read the field, make plays on the ball and contribute in multiple phases for a winning program. He will need to continue adding strength and physical maturity, which is normal for a safety prospect still early in his development. But the tools are there.

He has length, awareness, ball production and experience playing meaningful high school football. He also has the kind of competitive background that should help with the transition into a college defensive back room.

Family Ties And Utah Fit

Dart also comes from a football family with deep ties to the state.

He is the younger brother of former Corner Canyon and Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, who was selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He is also a legacy recruit with family ties to Utah, adding another layer to the recruitment.

Those connections do not win a recruitment by themselves, but they matter when a local player is deciding whether to stay home.

Utah made the case that home was the right fit.

The Utes hosted Dart during last weekend’s official visit group and quickly turned that momentum into a commitment. That is exactly what programs want from June visits. The goal is not simply to get players on campus. It is to create enough confidence, comfort and clarity that prospects are willing to make decisions before the calendar shifts and other programs get more opportunities to push.

Momentum Into The Final Visit Weekend

Dart’s pledge also adds to a larger in-state storyline.

Utah has always needed to be strong inside its own footprint, but that becomes even more important in the modern Big 12. The Utes will continue recruiting nationally, and they have to win battles outside the region to build a championship-level roster. But the best version of Utah football still starts with identifying, developing and retaining the right local players.

That is why commitments like this carry extra weight.

Dart is not just another name on the board. He is a Corner Canyon player, an in-state defensive back and a prospect with enough athletic versatility to fit what Utah has historically valued on defense.

The commitment also gives Utah more positive energy heading into the final weekend of official visits.

Recruiting momentum can be overused as a phrase, but this is the time of year when it matters. Prospects talk. Families pay attention. Other recruits notice which players are buying into a class. When a program turns a visit weekend into multiple commitments, it helps create the feeling that something is moving.

For Scalley and his staff, Dart’s decision gives Utah another useful proof point.

The Bottom Line

There is still plenty of work to do before the class is finished. The addition of Dart to the class is a big one for the Utes.

Utah has another visit weekend ahead, more targets to push for and more position needs to address. But Dart’s commitment adds another layer to what has become an important stretch for the Utes.

A local safety. A legacy recruit. A Corner Canyon product. For Utah, that is exactly the kind of recruiting win that can help carry momentum into the final lap of June.
