The John Watson Northern Utah High School Player of the Week is celebrating the best high school football player(s) in Northern Utah. Presented by John Watson Chevrolet in Ogden, each week we honor athletes for their exceptional performance on the gridiron. Our co-winners of the week were Gunner Pearson and Chase Howard from Roy High School.
Northern Utah Players of the Week – Gunner Pearson & Chase Howard
The Roy Royals showed off their rushing prowess in the week one opener at Taylorsville High School securing a 54-7 victory. Running back Chase Howard finished the game with 9 carries for 102 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Gunner Pearson added 4 rushing touchdowns of his own with 79 yards on 11 carries, plus an additional 120 yards through the air.
After Taylorsville scored the first touchdown of the game, Gunner Pearson broke away for a 54 yard rush to tie it up. Chase Howard would add a first quarter rushing touchdown before Gunner ran in his second rushing score with three seconds left. Gunner again would score for his third rushing touchdown, the only score of the second quarter. Chase picked up 65 yards on a rushing touchdown in the third quarter for the Roy Royals to take full control against the Warriors. The Royals’ defense held strong, shutting out the Warriors for the final three quarters.
