Salt Lake County High School Player of the Week – Week 15 – Esun Tafa, Corner Canyon

SALT LAKE CITY – The Hercules Salt Lake County High School Player of the Week is celebrating the best high school football player in Salt Lake County. Presented by Hercules First Federal Credit Union, each week we honor athletes for their exceptional performance on the gridiron.  Our winner this week was Esun Tafa from Corner Canyon High School.

Salt Lake County Player of the Week – Esun Tafa, Corner Canyon

The Corner Canyon Chargers entered the 6A State Championship Game against Lone Peak High School. looking to avenge their regular season loss to the Knights and complete another three-peat of state titles. Tafa, who is committed to USC, anchored the offensive line and powered their dominant ground game. A back and forth first half that saw Lone Peak take a 17-14 lead into the locker room.

After the Knights extended their lead to a 20-14 lead midway through the third quarter, Weston Briggs came to life as Tafa and his teammates paved the way for three unanswered touchdowns to ensure the Chargers would celebrate another state championship with a 35-20 victory. Corner Canyon scored all five of their touchdowns scored on the ground as they piled up 238 rushing yards in the victory.
