SALT LAKE CITY – The Copper Hills Grizzlies punched in a late game-winner against the Layton Lancers in week four of 6A high school football on Friday.

After a fourth-quarter Layton run had Copper Hills trailing 22-21, the Grizzlies needed a late answer. Running back Ryu Duy gave them just that, capping off the final drive with a goalline score with just 12 seconds left on the clock.

Copper Hills quarterback Ethan Hill threw for a touchdown and ran one in himself. The Grizzlies improved to 3-1 with the win.

Week 4 Recap For 6A Utah High School Football

Region 2

Riverton Silverwolves 24 @ No. 11 Herriman Mustangs 35

The Herriman Mustangs fought off a second-half run from the Riverton Silverwolves to remain undefeated on the season. The Mustangs led 21-7 at the break. Riverton came back with 14 points in the third quarter. 14 second-half points from Herriman allowed them to stay in front and retain control of the game. Quarterback Tyler Messer and running back Filisi Filipe each punched in two scores for the Mustangs.

No. 14 Mountain Ridge Sentinels 52 @ Cedar Valley Aviators 14

After a tightly contested first half, the Mountain Ridge Sentinels exploded for 31 unanswered points after halftime to pick up a big win over the Cedar Valley Aviators in week four. Sentinels quarterback Jaxon Hunt threw for four touchdowns. Running back Zach Ofisa added three on the ground.

Non-Region

No. 5 American Fork Cavemen 24 @ Farmington Phoenix 22

The American Fork Cavemen nearly allowed a second-half comeback from the Farmington Phoenix, but were able to hold onto their lead to remain undefeated. American Fork scored all of its points in the first half. They were unable to add to their tally after the break, and Farmington slowly started to chip away at the lead. The Phoenix offense closed the lead to two points with six minutes left, but that ended up being the last score of the game.

Rigby Trojans (ID) 42 @ No. 10 Syracuse Titans 38

The Syracuse Titans let go of their lead with a fourth-quarter score by the Rigby Trojans, which led to their first loss of the season. Syracuse led 38-35 going into the final quarter. Rigby put together a scoring drive with seven minutes left, and the Titans were unable to regain the lead.

Liberty Lions (AZ) 14 @ No. 1 Corner Canyon Chargers 45

The Corner Canyon Chargers welcomed Arizona’s Liberty Lions to Utah and gave them a 30-point loss to take back home. Quarterback Helaman Casuga continued his excellent play, throwing for four touchdowns and adding a fifth with his legs. All four passing TDs went to a different receiver.

No. 17 Alta Hawks (5A) 14 @ No. 7 Davis Darts 59

With Utah football head coach Kyle Whittingham in attendance, the Davis Darts put on a show against the Alta Hawks. Davis scored 45 of its 59 points in the first half. Quarterback Tradon Bessinger threw four touchdowns to four different receivers. Bode Sparrow had a receiving score and a pick-six against the Hawks.

Desert Hills Thunder (4A) 14 @ No. 9 Lehi Pioneers 42

The Lehi Pioneers took care of business at home against the Desert Hills Thunder in week four. After scoring 35 unanswered points in the first half, they cruised to the final whistle. Legend Glasker and Devaughn Eka both had two touchdowns. Both of Eka’s scores, one rush and one through the air, came from over 70 yards out.

No. 19 Viewmont Vikings (5A) 22 @ Weber Warriors 35

The Weber Warriors handed the Viewmont Vikings their first loss of the season in week four. Weber scored 14 points in each of the first two quarters and cruised to the finish line from there.  Viewmont eventually scored 16 points in the fourth quarter but the surge was too little, too late. Weber quarterback Carter Payne and receiver Creed Devries connected on three touchdowns.

No. 3 Skyridge Falcons 70 @ Highland Rams (ID) 6

The Skyridge Falcons dropped 70 against Idaho’s Highland Rams in week four. The Falcons scored 20 or more points in each of the first three quarters. Five TDs came on the ground, and quarterback Kaneal Sweetwyne threw the other four.

No. 18 Westlake Thunder 45 @ South San Francisco (CA) 7

The Westlake Thunder traveled down to the West Coast and week four and will come back with their perfect record intact. The South San Francsisco Warriors were no match for the Thunder, scoring just seven consolation points. Westlake scored three touchdowns on the ground, one through the air, one on a kick return, and the last on a 48-yard pick-six.
