SALT LAKE CITY — The Farmington Phoenix shocked the No. 16 Syracuse Warriors with a big week nine win in 6A high school football on Thursday.

Farmington jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half on a rushing TD from Chase Hamblin and quarterback Will Peterson connecting with Kava Fiefia for a nine-yard touchdown. Syracuse responded with a field goal in the second quarter.

Both teams would hit one more field goal before the break, with Farmington holding a 17-6 lead. The Titans answered with a four-yard touchdown connection between Ledger Wight and Cohen Godderidge.

Farmington responded with a 50-yard touchdown run by Peterson. Late in the third quarter, Wight had a 33-yard rushing touchdown to bring Syracuse within three, 24-21, entering the fourth quarter.

The Phoenix defense held off the Titans while also getting a field goal in the final period to pull off the upset.

Week 9 Recap For 6A Utah High School Football

Region 1

No. 2 Davis Darts 42 @ Layton Lancers 7 (Thurs.)

The Darts scored 35 points in the first half and cruised to a road win over Layton. Tradon Bessinger threw for four touchdown passes, finding Bode Sparrow twice, and Makaio Byrd and Isaac Morrison once each. Byrd added two rushing touchdowns in the win for Davis. Koen Doane found Nathan Meacham for a nine-yard TD in the first quarter for the Lancers.

Region 2

No. 11 Herriman Mustangs 42 @ Copper Hills Grizzlies 7

The Herriman Mustangs took care of business to improve to 8-1 with their win over the Copper Hills Grizzlies on Friday. Herriman’s Filisi Filipe was a one-man show against the Grizzlies. He punched in four touchdowns, three on the ground and the fourth through the air. Both of the Mustang’s other trips to the end zone came on long plays: a 56-yard run from Jai’un Polanco and an 80-yard pass to Tate Love.

Bingham Miners 6 @ No. 5 Mountain Ridge Sentinels 35

The Mountain Ridge Sentinels scored at least one touchdown in each quarter of their win over the Bingham Miners on Friday. The tone was set early as Tytan DeJong opened scoring on a 76-yard touchdown catch just minutes after kickoff. Quarterback Jaxon Hunt finished with three passing touchdowns and an extra on the ground. Two of his TD throws went to Kohen Cunningham.

Cedar Valley Aviators 41 @ No. 20 Westlake Thunder 56

The Westlake Thunder held off a late run from the Cedar Valley Aviators to improve to 7-2 on Friday. The Thunder led 35-7 at halftime. If not for that lead, the 34 points scored in the second half by the Aviators could’ve proved much more dangerous. Quarterback Bosten Fountaine threw five passing TDs, two to Malik Sika and another two to Slone Sua.

Region 3

No. 7 American Fork Cavemen 21 @ No. 1 Corner Canyon Chargers 37 (Thurs.)

The defending 6A champion Chargers took care of business at home. They scored 21 unanswered points before taking a 28-7 lead into the halftime break. American Fork outscored Corner Canyon 14-9 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to pull off the upset. Helaman Casuga threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more scores. He found Kai Meza on both of his passing touchdowns. Weston Briggs added a rushing TD. Madden Jensen and Nate Childs each had rushing touchdowns in the loss for American Fork.

No. 9 Lehi Pioneers 34 @ No. 6 Lone Peak 6 (Thurs.)

Lone Peak jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second quarter on two field goals before Lehi scored 34 unanswered points to pick up a big Region 3 win on the road. Legend Glasker ran back a 94-yard kick return for a touchdown and ran in a 20-yard rushing TD. Wyatt Bingham and Briggs Love each found the end zone once on the ground for the Pioneers.
