SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau and Harris English played alongside one and another for the second day in a row but unlike the first day, they suffered a loss in Saturday afternoon’s four-ball format.

The loss marks the first defeat for Finau in his Ryder Cup career. The loss came in a one-up fashion to Shane Lowry and Tyrrell Hatton.

Europe took the first blow on the third hole after Lowry made a clutch birdie to give the Europeans the early advantage. The second blow also came in favor of the Europeans on the 11th to go two up, this time Hatton sunk a birdie after both Finau and English missed the green.

Life was brought back into the USA when Finau sunk the winning putt on 13. But unfortunately, that was all Finau and English could muster as Europe secured a much-needed point.

Nonetheless, Team USA has a hefty lead heading into the final day of singles play. The USA currently leads 11 to 5, for the USA to win they must reach 14.5 points while Europe only needs 14 points following their Ryder Cup victory in Paris in 2018.

Single pairings ahead of Sunday’s final round are yet to be announced, however, are expected to be released shortly. In 2018, Finau won his singles bout convincingly when he emphatically beat Tommy Fleetwood 6&4.
