Real Salt Lake extends rookie forward Sergi Solans through 2030

SANDY — Sergi Solans isn’t going anywhere any time soon, if Real Salt Lake has something to say about it.

The rookie forward with a club-high 13 goals across all competitions this season inked a contract extension through the 2029-30 MLS season with a club option for 2030-31, the club announced Monday.

Solans, 22, came to Salt Lake as a little-known striker out of the Girona FC academy in his native Spain. After a collegiate career that included West Coast Conference offensive player of the year honors at Oregon State and second-team All-America honors by the United Soccer Coaches at UCLA, RSL selected the Lleida, Spain, native with the No. 30 overall pick of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.

The club acquired the selection from the LA Galaxy in exchange for $50,000 in general allocation money in a draft-day deal — and Solans has repaid the investment in force.

The 2026 team’s golden-boot leader already broke Corey Baird’s rookie record for goals in an MLS season with eight, which the former RSL homegrown set en route to MLS Rookie of the Year honors in 2019. But Solans also scored in five of Salt Lake’s previous six matches in August that included a pair during phase-one of Leagues Cup to help RSL to the knockout-round appearance against Liga MX top-seeded Club Leon.

In all, Solans enters Tuesday’s quarterfinal (8:30 p.m. MT, Apple TV) on a four-match scoring run, having sat during the club’s 2-1 loss to Orlando City SC over the weekend. A goal against Leon would match former RSL great Damir Kreilach’s club-record five-match scoring streak through September and October 2021.

“I’m quite grateful to the Club to extend this contract,” Solans said. “I am also very thankful to the coaches for their trust and to the fans for their support from my first day in Utah – my job is not just scoring goals, I want fans to engage with the team and with me, showing their support for the team. 

“My time in Utah has been very good so far, it is such an amazing place to live, I tell everyone that the people in this state are so nice, the Club is unbelievable, everyone is so willing to help, and we should all be very proud of that.”

RSL opens the Leagues Cup quarterfinals Tuesday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. A win would advance to the competition semifinals, where three of the final-four participants are guaranteed a berth in CONCACAF Champions Cup.

The club is currently eighth in MLS’s western conference with 28 points ahead of Saturday’s Rocky Mountain rivalry tilt at seventh-place Colorado.
