FARMINGTON — The Big Sky Conference has expanded to 11 teams, including three in the state of Utah, and that means more basketball for fans of Weber State, Southern Utah and Utah Tech.

The conference announced men’s and women’s basketball schedules for all 11 teams for the 2026-27 season, which will be the first for the Trailblazers in the conference and the Thunderbirds’ return to the Big Sky for the first time since 2022.

All 11 teams will play a 20-game, double round-robin regular season against conference opponents — both home and away. League play will start the first week of December and wrap up March 1, leading directly into the conference tournament in Boise, Idaho.

That tournament at Idaho Central Arena will also expand to six days, featuring 20 total games and all 22 basketball programs participating in a knockout tournament for the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA tournaments.

“Starch Madness” will tip off March 5, with the championship games scheduled for Wednesday, March 10.

Who will Southern Utah play in the Big Sky?

The Thunderbirds are back in the Big Sky after four years in the Western Athletic Conference, which has since folded and rebranded as the United Athletic Conference.

“It is exciting to be back in the Big Sky this year,” SUU head coach Rob Jeter said in a news release. “The travel is a little more team-friendly and that will be a benefit. I am excited as a head coach to get to see the different venues in the conference and get a lay of the land. The quality of play is very high, and it is going to be important for us to get off to a strong start with two early home conference games.”

Conference play begins Dec. 3-5 with a a pair of home games against Idaho State and Weber State, after a nonconference slate that includes games against West Coast Baptist, Bethesda, High Point, Texas and Utah.
