BYU started the game poorly, finding themselves down 15-2 before the midway point of the first quarter. That early deficit was too much to overcome as the 10th-ranked Horned Frogs advanced to the semifinals.
BYU didn’t go away easily. The Cougars cut the deficit to nine points with 3:32 to go in the third quarter after BYU star Delaney Gibb had a fastbreak layup on a euro step. At that moment, BYU was on a 9-0 run.
Momentum was building for BYU, but then TCU All-American Olivia Miles put an end to that by knocking down her first field goal of the game. TCU was back up 11, and BYU couldn’t get any closer.
TCU’s size in the frontcourt was a problem for BYU throughout the game. The Horned Frogs’ centers, Clara Silva and Kennedy Basham, both 6’7″, each had four blocks on the smaller BYU squad.
TCU finished with nine blocks in the game and outrebounded BYU by eight (43-35).

BYU had more field goal attempts (63) than TCU (54), but the Cougars finished the game shooting 27% from the field. The three-point shooting was also unkind to BYU against TCU.
In yesterday’s win over rival Utah, BYU hit 11 3-pointers; against TCU, 5-of-28.
TCU’s defense was outstanding against BYU’s star guards. First Team All-Big 12 selection Delaney Gibb finished with 17 points on 22 shots, and true freshman Olivia Hamlin ended up with five points.
TCU star Olivia Miles was close to a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.
Long wait until Selection Sunday
BYU women’s basketball will now wait until March 15, on Selection Sunday, to find out where their next game will be played.
It will either be the NCAA Tournament or the NCAA-sanctioned WBIT (Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament).
Entering Friday, BYU was projected among the “First Four Out” in ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Creme’s bracket forecast.
After the loss to TCU, BYU is 22-11 overall.
