PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball legend Jimmer Fredette had his jersey retired at the Marriott Center.
To celebrate the event, which occurred 15 years after his playing days in Provo concluded, Fredette’s brother, TJ Fredette, dropped a new song centered around Jimmer.

Remember, in 2011, TJ released the track “Amazing” at the height of “Jimmermania.”
The new track is called “Try to block it.”
TJ Fredette described a story in the song: Jimmer was four years old when he was 11. They were playing basketball in the backyard of their family home, and TJ blocked Jimmer’s shot 25 straight times. On the 26th try, TJ decided to keep his hand down and let Jimmer shoot it.
Instead, the four-year-old Jimmer wanted the defense. He said, “Try to block it.”

Here’s the video.
Jimmer Fredette became the fifth BYU basketball player to have his jersey retired. The former Wooden Award winner led BYU to an appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament during his senior season in 2011.
After waiting the mandatory 15 seasons to be eligible for jersey retirement, BYU retired Fredette’s jersey in the rafters of the Marriott Center, joining Danny Ainge, Kresimir Cosic, Mel Hutchins, and Roland Minson.
“It’s pretty wild. It’s hard to put into words, right?” Jimmer Fredette said on having his jersey retired at BYU. “You see all the few jerseys that are up there. It’s not easy to get your jersey retired at Brigham Young University, with a lot of the requirements that they have. So it’s a special thing to be able to have that and to be here and do this with my family.”
