KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rob Wright III had an early in BYU’s 105-91 win over Kansas State in the Big 12 Tournament.
The star sophomore guard left the game at the 11-minute mark in the second half after getting in the mouth.
That contact to the face led to Wright needing dental work in the locker room as his teammates closed out the win over K-State.
Rob Wright III explained why he left BYU’s game early against K-State in the Big 12 Tournament
“I was playing defense and number three tried to Euro-step me, and he elbowed me in my mouth. It felt like my lip wasn’t on,” Wright said to KSL Sports. “So, I was just holding my mouth, and then they came over, so I had to get a dentist to fix my teeth and stitches in my lip.”
Wright later said the dentist had to fix his tooth as well.

Kevin Young on Wright’s status: “Lip laceration”
BYU basketball head coach Kevin Young commented on Wright’s injury at the podium after the win, which advances the Cougars to the Second Round of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday.
“Calling it a lip laceration. So everything else checked out,” BYU head coach Kevin Young said. “So barring anything unforeseen, Rob’s a pretty tough young man. I’d assume he’s going to play.”
That assumption would be correct on Wright’s end as well. The Third Team All-Big 12 guard plans to play in BYU’s second-round matchup against No. 7-seed West Virginia on Wednesday.
“Yeah, I’m a be back.”
Wright is averaging 18.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game this season for BYU.
