BYU-Notre Dame creates first-ever Top 10 matchup at LaVell Edwards Stadium
LaVell Edwards Stadium, formerly known as Cougar Stadium, opened in 1964.
It’s the second time in BYU football history that the Cougars are playing in a top-10 matchup. It’s the second consecutive year it’s happened, with the first coming last year against Texas Tech in Lubbock.
Notre Dame is the highest-ranked opponent to travel to Provo since 2004, when No. 1 USC defeated the Cougars.

The second-ranked Irish are the third-highest-ranked opponent ever to visit Provo. They only trail the aforementioned Trojans in 2004 and No. 1 Miami in 1990.
This Saturday’s game will be Notre Dame’s third visit to Provo. They first visited in 1993, when they were ranked No. 3 in the country, and they defeated BYU 45-20.
BYU enters this game with a 5-0 record, while the Irish are 6-0.
Notre Dame leads the all-time series against BYU, 7-2.
