PROVO, Utah – One of college baseball’s most stunning settings sits at the base of the Wasatch Mountains on BYU’s campus.

With Y Mountain rising beyond the outfield fence, Larry H. Miller Field at Miller Park has been a fan favorite since opening in 2001, offering a backdrop that feels as memorable as the action on the diamond. In the spring, snow-capped peaks frame the ballpark. By May, those same mountains soften into lush green hillsides, giving Miller Park a view that changes with the season but never loses its charm.

As Miller Park marks its 25th season in 2026, the ballpark the Miller family built at the foot of Y Mountain has grown from a first-of-its-kind experiment into one of college baseball’s most beautiful venues — a place where more than a century of BYU baseball tradition meets a facility that keeps evolving to match it.

BYU first took the field in 1894, and the program has called a handful of diamonds home in the 132 years since. None have matched this one.

Nestled between 63,000-seat LaVell Edwards Stadium and the 19,000-seat Marriott Center, Miller Park’s combined baseball-softball complex serves as a campus landmark in its own right.

Baseball plays on Larry H. Miller Field, facing east toward the mountains, while softball calls Gail Miller Field home. The two fields are separated by a recently renovated press box, allowing the Cougars to host two games at once — a design that was the first of its kind when it opened.

At ground level, the ballpark marries that deep history with modern amenities and eye-popping visuals.

Miller Park can accommodate more than 2,700 fans, including 2,200 reserved seats across two tiers of permanent Cougar blue seating. Intimate enough for fans to feel involved in the action, but spacious enough for a relaxing night out with the family.

A recently installed party area down the third-base line allows VIP guests to watch the Cougars from an elevated perch.

Beneath the gameday festivities, BYU athletes enjoy a spacious 6,000-square-foot pitching and hitting facility used year-round by current players and pros fighting to prolong MLB careers.

A 20-by-50-foot video board, installed in 2022, anchors the fan experience as it looms beyond the right-field fence.

Perhaps no detail better captures how BYU has engineered a ballpark to thrive against the very landscape that defines it: Miller Park features one of the only heated playing surfaces in college baseball. Coils beneath the playing surface keep the ground warm when snow blows off the Wasatch — allowing the Cougars to play and train when most northern programs are stuck indoors.

The outfield dimensions — 402 feet to straightaway center, 347 down the left-field line, 343 to right — play fair but reward power, especially in Provo’s 4,500-foot elevation. The power alleys stretch to 380 in left-center and 388 in right-center, giving fly balls plenty of room to carry in the thin mountain air.

The craggy, granite peaks that tower beyond those outfield walls only remind hitters how far the ball can travel up here.

Miller Park is more than a place to watch a game. It’s a place to feel connected — to the mountains that still hold snow in April, to a program that first took the field in the 19th century, and to the rhythm of a Utah spring that turns, inning by inning, into summer.
