LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies made great strides in matching a physical Weber State team on the way to an 83-73 home win to stay undefeated.

Utah State (3-0) hosted Weber State (1-2) in a Beehive battle at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Wednesday, November 12.

I thought we got physically manhandled. I thought we played very entitled, and we had talked about this for three days,” Calhoun said after his team was outrebounded for the first time this season.

Karson Templin led for the Aggies in double figures with 16 points while adding five rebounds.

Butler transfer Kolby King came off the bench to score 15 points and grab a team-high eight boards. Garry Clark scored 13 points off the bench.

Junior guard Mason Falslev finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and one assist.

“Today’s landscape of revenue share and transfer portal in college athletics isn’t like the old days, schematically,” Calhoun continued. “It’s very mental, it’s a lot of trying to motivate a new group of guys to get them to understand how good these teams are and how hard winning is, and we haven’t gone through this yet. We’ll get better from this, but it was painful. Going 3-23 from three is miserable.”

Three-point shooting woes plague Aggies

Utah State struggled all night from beyond the three-point arc.

After going 0-for-9 in the first half, USU rebounded to knock down 3-of-14 shots from deep in the final 20 minutes.

An inconsistent three-point attack kept Utah State from truly being elite last season, despite being an incredibly talented group.

USU began the week leading the Mountain West by making half of the threes (25-of-50) it has attempted. The Aggies’ 25 triples were second-most in the league to start the day.

“We usually shoot the ball well; we’re a great shooting team,” King said postgame. “But as you know, teams have nights where the ball just isn’t going in the basket from three, so we had to switch it up a little bit and get inside the paint, feed our bigs, attack the paint, and attack switches, and that was the outcome.”

Offseason additions add paint production for USU hoops

Fifth-year senior transfer Garry Clark came into the night averaging an 11.5-point, 12.5 rebound double-double. Clark has given Jerrod Calhoun’s Aggies the interior presence the program lacked in 2024-25.

The 6’9 former Texas A&M Community College standout also had one of four USU blocks. He has played the third-most minutes this season despite coming off the bench in all three games.

The Aggies outscored the Wildcats 46-28 in the paint.
