LOGAN, Utah – Former BYU and Virginia guard Dallin Hall committed to Utah State on Saturday, giving first-year coach Ben Jacobson a 136-game veteran as the Aggies prepare for their Pac-12 Conference debut.

Hall, a 6-foot-4, 197-pound point guard from Plain City, Utah, announced his decision on Instagram.

He was thought to have exhausted his eligibility after last season at Virginia but was recently granted a fifth year — and access to the transfer portal — through court rulings, spending less than a week on the market before choosing the Aggies.

Paired alongside 2025-26 Mountain West Player of the Year Mason Falslev, Hall’s combination of shooting, passing and disruptive defense could give Utah State one of the strongest backcourt tandems in the country.

He steps into the point guard role vacated by Drake Allen, who ran the offense the past two seasons.

Hall brings career averages of 7.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists across 136 games and 97 starts at BYU and Virginia. He has shot 41.3% from the field and 35% from 3-point range for his career.

Dallin Hall chooses BYU

Before beginning his college career with the Cougars in 2022, Hall was the 2019-20 Utah Gatorade Player of the Year at Fremont High School. The guard helped lead the Silverwolves to the 6A state championship and was named first-team all-state.

After serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fresno, California, Hall returned to Provo and immediately became an integral part of the program.

He played all 34 games as a freshman, starting 21, and earned 2022-23 West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team honors after averaging 7.3 points, 3.2 assists and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 41.2% from the field and 36.7% from 3-point range.

BYU’s move to the Big 12 for the 2023-24 season didn’t slow Hall’s ascent.

He started 30 of 34 games, averaged a team-high 29.3 minutes per game and posted 9.0 points on 42.2% shooting from the floor and 35.9% from deep. He earned All-Big 12 honorable mention after ranking in the top five in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio, total assists (172) and assists per game (5.1).

Hall’s role shifted as a junior under new coach Kevin Young.

He made 10 starts in 32 games, and his scoring dipped to 6.8 points per game, though he still reached double figures nine times.

All told, Hall averaged 7.7 points and 4.1 assists while starting 61 of 100 games as a Cougar. His 413 assists rank 10th in BYU program history.

A year in Charlottesville

Hall transferred to Virginia for the 2025-26 season and started all 36 games for a Cavaliers squad that went 30-6, finished second in the ACC and earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

He averaged 5.9 points, a team-high 4.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 41.3% from the field, 32% from 3-point range and 81.3% from the free-throw line.

What it means for Utah State

Hall is the latest in a wave of Utah natives on Jacobson’s roster, joining Falslev, Bron Roberts, Sean Felts, Ace Reiser and Jax Allen.

For a program coming off a 29-7 season and a second-round NCAA Tournament appearance, he provides the kind of experienced, steady hand at point guard that Jacobson sought all offseason — a player who has started in the WCC, Big 12, and ACC and now adds the Pac-12 to that list.
