SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah men’s basketball head coach Larry Krystkowiak told the media that they are still moving forward with their non-conference matchup with rival BYU.

The Utes were originally scheduled to go to Provo on December 12. That date is to be determined as Utah is finalizing their non-conference schedule. When the Pac-12 postponed fall and winter sports, it wasn’t looking good to have the rivalry game played but now that the conference cleared teams to play beginning November 25, it was still uncertain because of what the schedule would look like.

“BYU as far as I know we are moving forward with that game and there will be three other games to come up with,” Krystkowiak said.

Utah will play 20 conference games with two scheduled for December and the rest in 2021. They will be allowed to play seven non-conference. Earlier on Wednesday, Utah announced that they will play in the Bad Boy Mowers Classic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota during Thanksgiving weekend.

They will play three games in that tournament. Larry said that they will need to fill three more slots in non-conference with the tournament and the BYU game on the schedule.

Last season, Utah beat BYU in comeback fashion on December 4, 2019 at the Huntsman Center, 102-95 in overtime. Timmy Allen led the way with 27 points while Rylan Jones added 25 points.

Last season the Utah went 16-15 overall before their conference tournament was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Utes were eliminated in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament by Oregon State on the day before the shutdown.
