SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Mammoth came back from an early 2-0 deficit, scoring a quartet of third-period goals to drop Buffalo 5-2 and end a three-game losing streak.
The Mammoth secured the season sweep over the Buffalo Sabres at Delta Center on Tuesday, November 12.

Nick DeSimone started the scoring in the second period as Utah sought some semblance of momentum.
The floodgates opened in the third with former Sabre JJ Peterka, Lawson Crouse, and Nick Schmaltz scoring to grab a two-goal lead. Clayton Keller added an empty-netter later for the three-goal difference.
Buffalo struck first, taking a 1-0 lead at 5:33 when Isak Rosen scored his second goal of the season off a deflection.

Utah’s attack began to take control after the goal. Applying repeated pressure in the offensive zone eventually forced a Buffalo penalty and the first power play of the night.

The Mammoth came up empty on their first PP opportunity.
Minutes later, a Lawson Crouse roughing penalty forced Utah’s penalty kill group on the ice for the first time.

Kevin Stenlund was sent to the box late in the PK for high-sticking. The penalty created a 5-on-3 for the home team for 7 seconds, which was weathered easily.

Despite being outshot 12-8 in the period, Buffalo took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Utah was fortunate to keep the deficit at two goals.
Moments after Rosen’s second goal, Karel Vejmelka made a heroic effort to stop a series of attempts on a loose puck in the crease.
Later in the period, Utah finally scored a goal when Nick DeSimone blasted a slap shot past Ellis to cut the lead in half.
Utah needed that goal from DeSimone so bad.
My goodness. What a blast.

Buffalo didn’t flinch, pinging a shot off the pipe seconds later.
The Mammoth attack continued pressuring Ellis, but the young goaltender repeatedly showed his worth with tremendous saves.

The second 20 ended with Utah outshooting the Sabres 23-15, yet trailing 2-1.
This upcoming third period is the most important of the season right now for the Mammoth.
Simply cannot lose 4 straight & 6 of the last 7, especially against Buffalo.
