EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada – The Utah Mammoth’s seven-game winning streak was bound to end, and it did in a deflating 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
Connor McDavid scored twice, and Leon Draisaitl added another as the Oilers dragged Utah back to earth to end a four-game road trip.

Logan Cooley, JJ Peterka, and Barrett Hayton scored for Utah as its top two lines continue a recent scoring spree.
Nick Schmaltz has come out of nowhere to lead the league with 16 points through ten games. His seven goals are fourth in the NHL, with all seven coming in a five-game stretch between October 17 and October 23.
The tenth-year forward netted a hat-trick in a win over San Jose, beginning a streak of games in which he scored 13 points in a six-game span.
Schmaltz hasn’t been carrying the offensive load alone, as he is one of four Mammoth skaters averaging more than a point per game this season.
Can we talk about how insane Nick Schmaltz is playing right now? 👀

🦣 7 goals (T-4th)
🦣 9 assists (T-7th)
🦣 +7 (T-8th among forwards)

Linemate and Utah captain Clayton Keller is tied with five players league-wide with 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists).
Third-year winger Logan Cooley wouldn’t be outdone by Schmaltz’s hat-trick, netting a natural hatty of his own just days later. The smooth-skating, sweet-shooting Cooley has seven goals and scored eight points in Utah’s past three games.
Dylan Guenther rounds out the quarter with 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) and is tied with Carolina’s Seth Jarvis for the league lead in game-winning goals with four.

Nice pinch from Dmitri Simashev on the last sequence as he stepped up to not only keep the puck in play but maintain possession.
He then immediately retreated and got back on defense.
As I've noted before, he's sticking to his game & not complicating things.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
A fast pace highlighted the opening minutes with neither team generating much advantage.
Utah’s attack put the pedal down midway through the period, taking a 1-0 lead when Logan Cooley kept his hot streak alive with a wrister that Dylan Guenther assisted.
The forecheck, the turnover, the saucer pass, the patience, the top shelf finish.
Logan Cooley and his line mates are SPECIAL.
One of the best young lines? Nah.
One of the best lines in the whole league right now.pic.twitter.com/EmsyCAfCrB
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Cooley now has eight goals this season, six of which have come during his current four-game points streak. Linemate Guenther has seven assists.
JJ PETERKA SCORES OFF THE RUSH AND UTAH LEADS 2-0!!!
UNREAL!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
They acquired JJ for his speed and to score distance goals just like this.
I'm speechless, truly.
Simply elite hockey right now. https://t.co/a0tEbItjye
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
JJ Peterka gave the visiting club a 2-0 advantage when he put on the jets and beat Stuart Skinner top shelf on the rush. It was his fourth goal in a Mammoth sweater.
Strong first period in Edmonton 💪 pic.twitter.com/gYWBNs2uxq

Edmonton wasn't awake during that first period.
I expect a response.
Strap in here.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Utah just dominated the Oilers through the first 20.
We're watching silly hockey right now. What is even happening!?
40 minutes to go. 2-0 Utah. https://t.co/7cGa4BD1wH
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Utah outshot Edmonton 9-6, outhit them 5-3, and controlled the puck for the majority of the opening 20 minutes.
Edmonton only needed 22 seconds to cut the Mammoth lead in half when Mattias Ekholm beat Karil Vejmelka for a goal.
Oilers score quickly.
Way too much space and Ekholm blasts a slapper past Vejmelka.
2-1 Utah.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Less than three minutes later, Isaac Howard evened the game 2-2.
Howard scores right in front.
Oilers woke up.
2-2.

Carcone giving face washes in the corner 😂
Dude fears nobody.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Later in the period, Skinner misread the puck, and it immediately went badly for the Oilers.
Mikhail Sergachev sent a bouncing pass around the boards toward Nick Schmaltz. With Edmonton scrambling, Schamltz whipped a pass to Hayton in front of the net for an easy goal.
BARRETT HAYTON SCORES AND UTAH REGAINS THE LEAD 3-2!!!

Seconds later, rookie defenseman Dimitri Simashev preserved the lead with a heads-up play.
With one hand grasping at his face after getting caught by an inadvertent Leon Draisaitl high-stick, Siashev located a loose puck in front of the net and dove headfirst into the play before swatting the puck away with his free hand.
Y'all notice the hand off that Crouse just did?
Cole's stick was broken so Crouse quickly offered his which helped Cole shut McDavid down behind the net & clear the zone.
Defensemen need their sticks in the D-zone.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Draisaitl scores on a rebound and we're all tied up.
3-3 in Edmonton.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
It was Draisaitl’s eighth goal of the season.
Edmonton took its first lead seconds later when Ty Emberson’s first goal got by a sprawling Vejmelka.
Oilers again.
4-3.
Vejmelka is giving up some juicy rebounds right now and Edmonton is punishing Utah on the forecheck.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Utah answered with a flurry of shots from Peterka, Cooley, and Guenther, but came up empty after Skinner controlled the puck.
The kid line is flying tonight.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
McDavid scores on a quick give and go.
5-3 Oilers.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
5 goals is A LOT to give up in any period, but I'd lean more towards defensive breakdowns rather than blaming Vejmelka here.
He had no backside coverage on those rebounds and no netminder is stopping that McDavid give and go.

Liam O'Brien to the box for a cross check in front of the net.
That's incredibly weak…slight nudge for positioning.
Oilers PP on deck.

The Mammoth shorthanded unit repelled the following attack to remain within striking distance.
Logan Cooley drew a power play for Utah just over seven minutes into the final 20 minutes.
Bouchard to the box with a slash.
Utah PP on deck.
Need to score and get back in the game here.
3P: 12:55 | 5-3 Edmonton
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Massive save by Vejmelka on McDavid on the breakaway!
97 doesn't miss those very often.
Great stop.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Guenther is tripped.
Utah back to the PP.
Must score situation here.
3P: 4:38 | 5-3 Edmonton
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Vejmelka to the bench.
Extra attacker on.
6 on 4 for Utah.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
McDavid scores on the empty net and that will do it.
6-3 Oilers and the streak will come to an end.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
Unbelievable streak by Utah to win 7 in a row and go 3/4 on this road trip.
Unfortunate that it had to end but it's certainly a little bit easier to digest when it's McDavid & Co.
Still so much to like and a nice little break here for Utah until Sunday at home.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 29, 2025
The Mammoth turns the calendar on October when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Delta Center on Sunday, November 2. The puck drops at 1:30 p.m. MT.
