SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Hockey Club fell to the Colorado Avalanche, 5-1, in a Rocky Mountain Clash at Delta Center on Thursday.
Colorado showed why they are a Stanley Cup favorite from the opening puck drop. Utah had no answer all night and went into the final period trailing 4-0.
Utah HC will hit the road to take on the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, October 26.
A little Rocky Mountain Rivalry on the ice tonight.
I’d anticipate the Avs will become Utah’s most intense rivalry.#UtahHC #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/65LPU7F2dn

Maveric Lamoureux will make his NHL debut tonight.
He will play with Ian Cole.#UtahHC

Utah Hockey Club with their first power play of the evening.
Josh Manson to the box for two minutes.#UtahHC
— KSL Sports (@kslsports) October 25, 2024
Not much doing on Utah’s first power play. One decent sequence of passing but no real dangerous opportunities.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
Hayton is doing what he does best tonight against the Avalanche. Battling for really good position in front of the net and getting his stick on a few shots.#UtahHC
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
Vejmelka has been good early for the Utah Hockey Club.
Faced a few quick shots in close and kept them out. He’s pretty quick when reacting to shots.

First PK for #UtahHC
Kesselring to the box for 2 minutes for hooking.
— KSL Sports (@kslsports) October 25, 2024
5 on 3 situation coming up for the Avalanche. Ian Cole called for tripping.
— KSL Sports (@kslsports) October 25, 2024
Special teams with a massive task.
MacKinnon, Makar, and Rantanen are some of the best players in the league. So dangerous. https://t.co/0vDL2n1HBM

Colorado scores on the PP.
Avalanche lead 1-0 with 10:04 remaining in the first period.#UtahHC

Just incredible passing by Colorado inside the offensive zone. They move the puck so fast and get the goaltender moving back n forth it’s almost impossible to stop. https://t.co/486aSXt8mJ
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
Lamoureux’s physicality on display during the last shift. Standing 6-foot-6, he doesn’t lose very many battles. He cleared out the crease and moved the Colorado forward without much resistance.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
That was the best stretch of hockey Utah has played tonight. Couple suffocating possessions inside Colorado’s zone and a few opportunities for Keller. He tried to beat Annunen high in close, but the angle was covered well.
Gotta keep battling.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
Cale Makar scores on the rush.
2-0 Colorado with 1:40 remaining in the first period.
— KSL Sports (@kslsports) October 25, 2024
Here’s the thing about Colorado. They don’t need much build up to score. With MacKinnon and Makar on their roster, those guys can create a lot out of very little and are dangerous every single shift.
This team won a cup not long ago and could do it again this season. https://t.co/JaHImuttHY

End of the 1st period, Utah trails Colorado 2-0.
Utah is scoreless through the last 4 periods of play. They’ve got to find a way to break through and light the lamp. They just look a little timid. Almost like the net is impenetrable.

#UtahHC back to the power play to start the second period.
Big opportunity to get back in the game trailing 2-0.
— KSL Sports (@kslsports) October 25, 2024
Another power play wasted by the Utah Hockey Club.
Really struggling to get anything going. Gave up a 2-on-1 situation and it was nearly 3-0.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
Lamoureux just absolutely demolished Mittelstadt in the corner. Laid him out no problem.
Highlight of the night so far.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
Another penalty against the Utah Hockey Club.
Crouse to the box for 2 minutes for interference.
— KSL Sports (@kslsports) October 25, 2024
Breakaway by Stenlund is stopped by Annunen. He tried to go 5-hole but was met by pads.
The puck just will not go in for Utah right now.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
Cooley gets caught up with Toews in the corner. Not sure how that wasn’t interference…I’m also a little surprised it wasn’t met by a glove drop but I don’t know that anybody else saw what was happening.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
Colorado scores again.
3-0 with just over 5 minutes left in the 2nd period.

Another penalty against Utah.
Guenther to the box for 2 minutes for hooking.
— KSL Sports (@kslsports) October 25, 2024
Brutal stretch of hockey for #UtahHC over the last 5 periods.
8 goals against, 0 for. That’s just hockey sometimes.
But it’s a long season, not to mention they’re down 2 of their premier defensemen.

Utah’s forward lines have switched up quite a bit tonight. Guenther is now on the top line, Maccelli, Crouse and McBain are together. They’re shaking it all up.
Seems fair when nobody can put the puck in the net.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) October 25, 2024
UTAH HOCKEY CLUB FINALLY SCORES.
Lawson Crouse lights the lamp on a breakaway and the curse has been lifted.
They still trail 4-1 late but that had to help moral. The puck can actually go in the net.
