Reports: BYU, Utah State Among Teams That Show Interest In Former Utah G Both Gach

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – According to reports, former Utah guard Both Gach has released the teams that have reached out to him after entering the transfer portal.

Stadium college basketball insider Jeff Goodman received the list of the teams from Gach and both Utah State and BYU are on the list. Last Thursday, Gach told Goodman that if he pulled his name from the NBA Draft that he would transfer from Utah.
The list of teams that Gach has received interest from includes Utah State, BYU, Arkansas, Minnesota, Nevada, Auburn, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Creighton, Illinois, Georgetown, Oregon and New Mexico.

The Utah guard finished his sophomore season in 2019-20 averaging 10.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
After dealing with injuries as a sophomore, Gach bounced back toward the end of the season with big performances that led to being named Pac-12 Player of the Week.
How Gach Would Fit In With BYU
Both Gach is exactly what BYU is looking for in the transfer market. A guard with NBA potential that would instantly become one of the premier guards in the West Coast Conference and put BYU in a better position to compete with Gonzaga for the WCC crown.
BYU coach Mark Pope has done a brilliant job with player development at both Utah Valley and his first year in Provo. If Gach ended up at BYU, look for his paltry 25 percent shooting from three-point range to improve. Just look at Alex Barcello. While at Arizona he shot 29 percent from deep. Under Mark Pope and the advanced analytics his staff uses, Barcello was one of the nation’s top three-point shooters at 48 percent last season.
How Gach Would Fit In With Utah State
Gach would fit in almost immediately with the Aggies. Head coach Craig Smith is really good at finding talent and allowing them to blossom at Utah State. The Aggies have a need at the guard position with Sam Merrill graduating and point guard Abel Porter transferring to Ohio State.
It would be a great conference for Gach in the Mountain West and he would thrive up in Logan.
