The Hercules Salt Lake County High School Player of the Week is celebrating the best high school football player in Salt Lake County. Presented by Hercules First Federal Credit Union, each week we honor athletes for their exceptional performance on the gridiron. Our winner this week was Herriman High School running back Filisi Filipe.
Salt Lake County Player of the Week – Filisi Filipe, Herriman
In one of the most anticipated games of week one, the Herriman Mustangs welcomed in the Bountiful Redhawks for a non-region 6A vs 5A match up. Herriman built up a 19-0 lead over Bountiful thanks to two rushing touchdowns from Filisi. With 5:58 left in the first quarter, Filisi broke through for a 54 yard rushing touchdown, his first of the new season. Early in the second quarter, Filisi scored his second on a goal line rush.
Following a scoreless third quarter, the Bountiful Redhawks scored twice late in the fourth quarter to give the Mustangs a scare! With Herriman leading 19-14, Bountiful’s defense was trying to stop Filisi and get the ball back. However, Filisi broke free for a 73 yard touchdown run with 1:14 left in the game, sealing the week one victory for Herriman. Filisi Filipe finished the night with 27 carries 276 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Every week, KSL Sports will name a Salt Lake County high school player of the week in partnership with Hercules First Federal Credit Union.
