Student-Athletes In Utah Earn High Academic Awards

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Several student-athletes from around the state received honors for their success in the classroom to complement their abilities in their respective sports.
The BYU men’s volleyball team has a long history of success on the floor but junior middle blocker Miki Jauhiainen made history with his academic skills. The junior became the first Academic All-American in program history by being named a third team selection.
Jauhiainen had a 4.0 GPA while studying computer science.

Utah skier Julie Mohagen made her second All-American team this week as well. This year she is a first team selection by CoSIDA, the national organization of collegiate sports information directors, after making the third team last year. She recently graduated with a 4.0 GPA in finance.

Eight of Westminster’s teams earned high honors for academics, bringing home the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Brechler Award in men’s lacrosse, men’s basketball, women’s cross country, and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track along with women’s volleyball.
