SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Highly touted Utah quarterback Jack Tuttle will “no longer participate” with the team after reports surfaced of his intent to transfer due to a lack of playing time.

Communications director Liz Abel released a statement late Thursday afternoon.

“Utah freshman quarterback Jack Tuttle is no longer participating in team activities for reasons unrelated to academics or discipline,” the statement read.

The university fell short of confirming the transfer, but head coach Kyle Whittingham did say the team wished Tuttle well.

“We wish Jack the best and have no further information to add at this time,” he said.

The four-star recruit has not appeared in any games for the Utes this season. Reports said Tuttle was leaving because he was not playing. He was listed as the 3rd quarterback on the depth chart behind Tyler Huntley and Jason Shelley.

Commitment To Utah

Jack Tuttle enrolled early at the University of Utah, singing his letter of intent during the early signing period in December.  He started courses in January in order to participate in spring practice.

Before arriving in Salt Lake City, Tuttle received offers from Alabama, Wisconsin, Arizona, Arizona State, LSU and USC.

When Tuttle committed, he was a big fan of Utah offensive coordinator Troy Taylor.

“Troy Taylor is a great football mind and great coach. I have so much respect for him and what he’s doing and what he plans to do at Utah,” he said. “I can’t wait to get working with him and play for him.”

High School Career

Tuttle came to Utah from San Marcos, California. He was the 5th ranked pro-style quarterback in the country out of Mission Hills high school where he was the San Diego Section Player of the Year. He threw for 3,171 yards and 41 touchdowns in his senior year of high school.

Information about when a transfer might happen, or where Tuttle might go was not available.
