Tobias Harris, Kemba Walker Should Be Jazz Top Free Agent Targets

May 6, 2019, 4:27 PM | Updated: 4:28 pm

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – If the Utah Jazz want to take the next step and have a deeper playoff run, they will need to attract one or two big free agents.

On SportsBeat Sunday, Jeremiah Jensen and Spencer Linton discussed which free agents the Jazz should target that would take the team to the next level, while complimenting Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert.

Linton wants the Jazz to go after Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker, while Jensen really wants to see Tobias Harris of the Philadelphia 76ers in a Jazz uniform.

Kemba Walker

Walker is coming off of a career season, averaging 25.6 points per game, along with 4.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists. He finished his eighth season with the Hornets and was named a starter for the Eastern Conference All-Stars.

“The Jazz front office would do themselves a great service if they can sign another legitimate scoring guard,” Linton said. “Kemba [Walker] fits that billing. Walker and Donovan Mitchell? Yes, please,” he added.

While Linton thinks it is unlikely that Walker would sign with the Jazz, Jensen thinks that Utah should at least try.

“Go kick the tires on that,” Jensen said. “He would take the pressure off of Donovan [Mitchell] of having to be the primary ball carrier,” he mentioned.

Tobias Harris

Harris is in his eighth season in the NBA and is putting up career numbers. He is averaging 20 points and 7.9 rebounds per game after playing 55 games with the Los Angeles Clippers before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. During the current playoff run, Harris is posting 15.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in just his second playoff series of his career.

“I think he is a realistic option,” Jensen stated. “I don’t know how he fits in Philly right now, they can offer him more money and more years, but Tobias Harris is the playmaker that the Jazz can use. He can score off the dribble, he can score from three, he is that stretch guy that they need,” he said.

The fact that Harris is 26-years-old is what also intrigues Jensen.

“He isn’t fully developed yet,” he said. “I think Quin Snyder and that staff can bring out the best in Tobias Harris and that could be the scorer and playmaker that the Jazz need to pair with Donovan and Rudy Gobert,” Jensen added.
