Utah DC Morgan Scalley Named Finalist For Broyles Award

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley was announced as a finalist for Broyles Award. The honor is given annually to college football’s top assistant coach.
Scalley was named a finalist for the award on Monday, December 2.
The Utah defensive coordinator and safeties coach was listed as one of five finalists for the award.

Scalley joins the following finalists for the Broyles Award:
- Phil Snow (Baylor – Defensive Coordinator)
- Dan Lanning (Georgia – Defensive Coordinator)
- Joe Brady (LSU – Passing Game Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach)
- Jeff Hafley (Ohio State – Co-Defensive Coordinator/Secondary Coach)

Scalley leads a Utah defense that is currently ranked third in the country in total defense. The only programs who’s defense ranks higher than the Utes are No. 1 Ohio State and No. 3 Clemson.
Utah allows 241.6 yards per game. The No. 5 Utes have only allowed 16 touchdowns this season. Opponents struggle to move the ball against Sack Lake City averaging 4.2 yards per play.
Scalley has been Utah’s defensive coordinator since 2016. He’s in his 12th season as a coach at Utah. He played safety for the Utes from 2001-2004.
The 2019 award winner will be announced on Tuesday, December 10.
