Chicago Bears Select Utah CB Jaylon Johnson With 50th Overall Pick In 2020 NFL Draft

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Chicago Bears picked former Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson with the 50th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Johnson was the 7th cornerback selected in the Draft.

The former Utah shutdown corner is headed to Chicago to lead a defense that helped the Bears to a 8-8 record in 2019.

Jaylon Johnson’s Collegiate Career

Coming out of Fresno, California, Johnson was one of the top recruits that the Utes have signed. As a freshman in 2017, Johnson started in two of the 12 games that he played in. He finished with 25 tackles, seven passes defended and six pass breakups.

In 2018 as a sophomore, Johnson started in all 14 games for the Utes and was named first team All-Pac-12. He ended his second season with 4 interceptions, 41 tackles and four pass-breakups. Johnson returned one interception for a 100-yard touchdown against Stanford.

Last season in 2019 for the Utes, Johnson was once again named first team All-Pac-12 as well as an All-American. He started in 13 games before sitting out the Alamo Bowl against Texas in order to prepare for the NFL Draft.

During his junior season, Johnson had 11 pass breakups, 13 passes defended, two interceptions and 36 tackles.

He measured the following at the NFL Scouting Combine:

Height: 6’0

Weight: 193 lbs.

Arms: 31 3/8″

Hands: 9 3/8″

At the Combine, Johnson recorded the following results:

40-yard Dash: 4.50 seconds

Bench Press: 15 reps

Vertical Jump: 36.5 inches

Broad Jump: 124 inches

3-Cone Drill: 7.01 seconds

20-Yard Shuttle: 4.13 seconds
