Tyler Huntley Beat Lamar Jackson In High School, Now Share Same NFL Locker Room

Apr 28, 2020, 1:15 PM

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former University of Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley has officially signed with the Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted following the conclusion of the 2020 NFL Draft. Fortunately, Huntley has joined a team that has familiar faces on the current roster, including the 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson.

Jackson played his high school football at Boynton Beach while Huntley was the starting quarterback at Hallandale High School. The two schools are separated by 42 miles.

It was Halloween of 2014 when Boynton Beach, led by senior quarterback Lamar Jackson, visited Tyler Huntley, who was a junior at the time, and Hallandale High School.

With just 30 seconds left on the clock, Jackson threw his third touchdown of the game to give Boynton Beach a 36-35 lead.

However, in remarkable fashion, Huntley was able to orchestrate a drive that ended with a 31-yard field goal attempt.

On came Celso Lopez, the Hallandale kicker, who had never kicked a field goal in a game before.

Lopez split the uprights and mayhem ensued. Hallandale beat Boynton and secured the 6-A district title.

Ironically, the two standout quarterbacks are now on the same NFL roster. Since that defeat in 2014, Jackson has risen to football stardom winning the Heisman Trophy in 2016 and securing the NFL MVP award in 2019. While Huntley took Utah to consecutive Pac-12 Championship games in 2018 and 2019.

Huntley will be hoping to act as the backup quarterback behind Jackson in 2020, however, in order for that to happen, he will have to beat out the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III and former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorely.
