LOGAN, Utah – Alex Barcello led the BYU men’s basketball team to its ninth straight win over the Utah State Aggies.

The Aggies hosted the Cougars on Saturday, December 5.

Barcello scored a game-high 23 points to led BYU in a 67-64 win over USU.

The victory was BYU’s ninth consecutive victory against the Aggies.

Utah State last defeated BYU during the 2011-12 college basketball season.

A game of runs

There’s a saying that states, “basketball is a game of runs.”

Saturday night’s game lived up to that.

After owning a 39-29 advantage at halftime, BYU had its hands full with USU during the final 20 minutes of action.

Utah State opened the second half with a 13-7 run.

BYU responded with an 11-4 run to stretch its lead to 57-46 with 10:32 remaining.

With 4:53 to go, Utah State’s Marco Anthony made a layup to tie the contest at 60 apiece.

Each team made one free throw until BYU’s Connor Harding connected on a three-pointer with 57 seconds left in the game.

Harding’s triple gave the Cougars a 64-61 lead.

With 12 seconds remaining, Utah State guard Rollie Worster was fouled while attempting a shot.

The ball went off the backboard and into the basketball but the officials didn’t give the Aggie an and-one opportunity.

Worster made one of two foul shots.

Barcello buried a pair at the charity stripe with seven seconds left before Worster’s three-point shot attempt missed at the buzzer.

Stat Leaders

Neemias Queta led the Aggies with 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Anthony added 17 points. Worster scored 15.

In addition to his 23 points, Barcello had five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

BYU forward Caleb Lohner added 11 points and six boards.

Up Next

With the loss, USU fell to 1-3 on the season.

Utah State’s next game is against the Weber State Wildcats on Saturday, December 12 at 12 p.m. (MDT).

The Cougars improved to 5-1 with the result.

BYU’s next contest is against the Boise State Broncos on Wednesday, December 9 at 7 p.m. (MDT).
