Mitchell, Bogdanovic Help Jazz Close Out Road Trip With Blowout Win Over Cavaliers

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdanovic and the Utah Jazz closed out their long six-game road trip with a 117-87 win over the Cavaliers.

Mitchell and Bogdanovic combined for 47 points in the Jazz win over the Cavaliers. Donovan had 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 5-for-7 from downtown. Bogey added 20 points on 6-of-10 field goal shooting and 4-for-6 from the three-point line. Jordan Clarkson chipped in 21 points off the bench, along with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Georges Niang had one of his better games this season with 14 points. Mike Conley rounded out the five Jazz players that scored in double figures with 12 points, 6 boards and 5 assists.

Cedi Osman scored 17 points to lead the Cavaliers. Damyean Dotson and Isaac Okoro dropped 11 points apiece. Yogi Ferrell contributed 10 points off the bench. Cleveland played without a good chunk of their players including Andre Drummond, Kevin Love, Colin Sexton, Darius Garland and former Jazzman Dante Exum.

Utah Jazz Put Game vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Away With Two Big Runs

The Jazz started to separate themselves from the Cavaliers early in the second quarter by going on an 11-0 run that gave them a 13-point lead midway through the period.

Utah’s lead reached 20 points when they started the third quarter on an 8-1 run. Cleveland called a timeout with 9:36 left in the third and the Jazz were up 57-37. The one point came from a free throw by Larry Nance Jr.

That run extended to 23-11 and the Jazz had a 72-47 lead midway through the third quarter before the Cavaliers went on a mini 6-0 run.

Mitchell, Bogdanovic Dominate Third Quarter In Utah Jazz Win Over Cleveland Cavaliers

Donovan Mitchell and Bojan Bogdanovic had big performances in the third quarter. Mitchell had 17 points on 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Bogdanovic added 10 points and made both of his three-point attempts. The duo combined for 27 of Utah’s 38 third quarter points.

Utah made 11 of their 20 field goal tries and 8-for-10 from the perimeter in the third. Mike Conley made a tripel, as did Miye Oni and Georges Niang. Jordan Clarkson had a bucket in the quarter as well.

Cleveland had 23 points in the third but Utah’s defense limited them to 28 percent field goal shooting (7-25) and 30 percent three-point shooting (4-13).

Utah improved their record to 7-4 and have won three straight games. The Jazz finished their long trip with a 4-2 record.

This was the last game of their now-six game road trip since the contest against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, January 13 was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols with the Wizards. The Jazz will head back to Salt Lake City after the trip to Cleveland.

The Jazz will next be in action on Friday, January 15 when they host the Atlanta Hawks at Vivint Smart Home Arena. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. MST and will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet.
