Jazz Players Enjoy Competition, Each Other At All-Star Game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Though it was Quin Snyder and Rudy Gobert who emerged victorious, all four members of the Utah Jazz celebrated their time at the NBA All-Star game together.

Snyder and Gobert helped lead Team LeBron to a 170-150 win, including winning all four quarters which led to a $1.25 million donation to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

Though Mitchell and Conley’s Team Durant lost all four quarters, they helped raise $500,000 for the United Negro College Fund.

Conley, Mitchell, Gobert Shine

Each of the Jazz three All-Stars shined during their time on the court. Mitchell led all Jazz scorers with 15 points on 6-12 shooting. The guard also handed out four rebounds and four assists.

Gobert scored 10 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor and added seven rebounds for Team LeBron.

Conley scored just three points but was celebrated by his Jazz teammates for scoring his first All-Star points 14 years into his career.

“I was thrilled to see that, he’s 65 years old so it definitely took him a while to get used to it, to get into a flow,” Mitchell joked. “I’m happy for him, man, we were so happy to be part of that together.”

Conley’s lone bucket came off a Mitchell outlet pass leading to a three late in the third quarter.

“Once I got the bucket I was like, ‘I’m good,'” Conley said. “‘You can take me out, do whatever.'”

All three Jazz players were able to share the floor in the third quarter, with Snyder on the sidelines leading Team LeBron.

“It was a thrill to look out on the court and see not just All-Stars but Hall of Fame players,” Snyder admitted. “To have a chance to be part of that game and then also see Rudy and see Donovan and Mike is also really special.”

Mitchell And Gobert Battle

While Conley only played 12 minutes, Mitchell and Gobert had a chance to go head to head in extended minutes.

Mitchell played 28 minutes for Team Durant off the bench which included several possessions where he was matched up against his All-Star teammate.

“All fun trash-talking, I had to foul him on the layup, make sure you didn’t get up there, just try to find ways to save some points,” Mitchell said. “I hit a three on him and then he contested one, and I missed one, so look for one on one and that, it was all fun.”

“I kind of let him get the first layup, but after that, I told him I told him I wasn’t going to let him lay it up anymore,” Gobert said. “He got kind of scared the second half. I thought he was going to try something, but he did a smart decision. He hit a three in my face.”

Good Representation At The All-Star Game

Overall, the Jazz showed well at the All-Star game. Though Conley managed just three points, he nearly won the Three-Point Shooting Contest, missing out on the title by one make against Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry who hit the contest winner on his final shot.

Gobert continued to prove that not only is he deserving of an All-Star nod, but he’s also entertaining in the game itself. Though he didn’t record a blocked shot, he found himself on the end of two highlight-reel alley-oops from James and Curry.

Mitchell also played significantly better than he did in his first appearance last season and seemed to find a groove playing among the best players in the league. Tough an awkward cut mid-highlight obscured his best play from the night, his one-handed alley-oop from Julius Randle was deserving of more praise.

Owning the best record in the NBA, the Jazz were the most well-represented team at the All-Star game. While the weekend started awkwardly with both Mitchell and Gobert being the final picks of the All-Star draft, the late addition of Conley and performances and attitudes from all four members of the franchise made it a worthwhile event.
