SALT LAKE CITY – New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said that former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill is on schedule to return from a concussion.

Payton spoke to the media about Hill’s status on Monday, November 1.

Hill suffered a concussion after a helmet-to-helmet hit during the Saints’ game against the Washington Football Team on October 10. The former BYU star had to be carted off the field following the injury.

After missing New Orleans’ last two games, Payton said that Hill’s return is on the horizon.

“He’s progressing well. He’s on schedule,” the Saints coach said of his backup quarterback.

The Saints need Hill to return from the league’s concussion protocol after starting quarterback Jameis Winston suffered a season-ending knee injury during Week 8.

On Monday, Payton confirmed that Winston had a torn ACL that occurred during the first half of New Orleans’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Halloween.

Winston beat out Hill for the Saints QB1 job during training camp.

Through the first four games of the season, the Saints utilized the former BYU star as an all-around playmaker like he was used in past seasons.

This season, Hill is 3/4 passing for 12 yards and an interception. He’s run the ball 16 times for 77 yards and three touchdowns.

During his five seasons in the NFL, Hill has thrown for 1,059 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions with a 70.3 completion rate.

New Orleans currently owns a 5-2 record and sits in second place in the NFC South division.

The Saints’ next game is at home against the Atlanta Falcons (3-4) on Sunday, November 7 at 11 a.m. (MDT) on FOX.
