SALT LAKE CITY – The Corner Canyon Chargers are moving on to the 6A state championship game after a dominating 48-13 win over Weber in the semifinals.

Devin Brown led the way for Corner Canyon with six touchdown passes, five coming in the first half. He connected with four different receivers for TD’s, three to Cody Hagen, along with one each to Jett Meine, Blaze DeGracie and Tre Kofe.

Devin Brown, Corner Canyon Take Charge In First Half

In just two minutes, Corner Canyon stormed down the field and ended the drive with a touchdown run by Drew Patterson. The Chargers took a 7-0 lead with 9:53 remaining in the first quarter.

Weber set themselves up nicely as Aidan Carter found Jett Hill for a big gain through the air that put the Warriors in Corner Canyon territory. The Chargers’ defense held serve defensively and forced Weber to kick a field goal. The attempt was missed.

Corner Canyon got into the red zone but faced a fourth down and long. Brown decided to keep it but came up inches short of the first down and the Warriors took over at their own six-yard line.

The Chargers took a commanding lead late in the first quarter when Brown found Cody Hagen in two consecutive drives for touchdowns. Corner Canyon had a 21-0 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Weber responded with a touchdown by Amari Swain but missed the PAT to trim the deficit to 21-6. Once again, Corner Canyon answered with a third touchdown connection between Brown and Hagen. They also missed the extra point but held a 27-6 lead with 6:57 remaining in the first half.

The Warriors were forced to punt on the ensuing drive and Corner Canyon scored a touchdown as Tre Kofe found pay dirt. Corner Canyon’s lead was extended to 34-6 with 2:14 left until halftime. The game was getting out of hand when Brown connected with Blaze DeGracie for a TD that gave them a 41-6 lead with 42 seconds left in the half.

Corner Canyon Cruises To 6A State Championship Game

Weber had the ball to start the second half but the first score didn’t come until 6:46 to play in the third. Aidan Carter threw his first TD pass of the game, finding Tyson Chartier from 12 yards out. That cut the Corner Canyon lead to 41-13.

Like the rest of the scores by Weber, Corner Canyon capitalized with an 80-yard strike from Brown to Jett Meine and the Chargers’ lead is 48-13 with 5:56 to play in the third quarter.

Corner Canyon will move on to the 6A State Championship game for the third straight season. They will await the winner of Lone Peak and Skyridge. The 6A title game will be on Friday, November 19 at 2:30 p.m. MT on sports.ksl.com, the KSL 5 TV app and the KSL Sports app.
