SALT LAKE CITY – After a very successful career at the University of Utah, wide receiver and return specialist Britain Covey is ready for the NFL Draft.

Britain Covey said that he had a great Pro Day, despite Utah not posting the results from the drills that he did in front of NFL scouts, executives and coaches.

The former Utah standout joined DJ & PK on The Zone Sports Network on Tuesday morning and discussed the NFL Draft process.

You can listen to the full interview, below.

Britain Covey Dives Into Conversations With NFL Teams

Throughout Covey’s time at Utah, he was always a player that was great to interview. He always gave thoughtful, insightful answers and was genuine when he spoke to the media. Those skills has leaked into the NFL Draft process when he has talked to teams.

“I’ve had a lot of contact with teams,” Covey said. “I’ve been getting interviews, Zoom calls, talking to coordinators, and things like that. So it’s been great. I’m not exactly sure what to expect still. Pro Day went really well. My agent told me that when a team sends a scout, they’re interested, when they send a coach, they’re really interested to pro days. We had a few coaches there to watch that I got to talk with. I just hope I get more interviews, because every time I get interviewed, I feel like that’s my strong suit. I can explain kind of how I understand the game or how I see the game. That usually helps me a lot. It helps me express kind of who I am as a player and show different things. So I hope I get more opportunities to do that. I’ve had quite a few. So it’s been good. I’ve been very pleased with that.”

Covey said that there are five or six teams that are really interested in him due to the need of a punt returner. But, Covey wants to make sure the teams know that he can be a weapon at wide receiver at the next level.

“I like to think of myself as pretty self aware of what value I bring to a team,” Covey mentioned. “I understand that primarily in the NFL, at least a start that’s going to be as a return man and as a punt returner especially and most teams want a punt returner who doubles as a position right as a receiver or a DB. What I’ve been able to explain is how I can double as a receiver. Obviously, my punt return skills will come in and can be contributing day one. But I can double as a receiver be in the slot, really grasp the concept of the offense quickly.”

NFL Teams Interested In Britain Covey; Player Comparisons

Covey was okay disclosing the teams that are showing interest in him because of the chess match on draft day. He said that it’s okay for other teams to know who is interested because normally a player in his position could be taken in free agency since it’s a smaller contract. But, if other teams see interest in him, they might use a seventh round pick and then that original team counters with a selection earlier in the seventh round.

“I’ve talked to are the Patriots, the Broncos, the Raiders, the Chargers and the Eagles,” Covey stated. “I say those the main teams that I’ve had lots of conversations with.”

Now, everyone’s favorite part of the draft process is the player comparisons. Covey has been told three different players that he is similar to.

“This is kind of what the NFL scouts and coaches have told me that they see,” Covey said. “They say in terms of body type, I’m Braxton Berrios, similar body types, similar speed. Then the other two that they give me are (Hunter) Renfro in terms of just smarts and ability. I’m more athletic than Renfro, but he’s so crafty, when he catches the ball, he can make people miss in a unique way. Then I’ve had Danny Amendola quite a few times because he started his career as a return man in St. Louis and that was basically all he did. Then he showed how smart he was and how effective he could be in the slot and then he kind of carved that role. But we run really similarly.”
