SALT LAKE CITY – The countdown for Hans & Scotty’s 60 in 60 is on. Coming in at #20 is BYU’s Chris Brooks (RB).

Throughout the summer Hans & Scotty are counting down the top 60 college football players in the state of Utah as voted on by the media (and a fan ballot).

“Very fast and physical,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said of his running back. “Strong, big body, six-foot, 235 pounds. Can punish with his body and has the speed to get out in the open and break big ones.”

BYU’s Chris Brooks

Brooks is a senior from Oceanside, California. He prepped at El Camino High School. Brooks rushed for 3,249 yards rushing and 34 touchdowns in his last three years in high school.

After high school, Brooks committed to California where he was the leading rusher in two of the past three seasons. During his time with the Golden Bears from 2018-21, Brooks racked up 1,734 yards and 14 touchdowns, along with 50 receptions for 345 yards and seven TD’s.

This past season for Cal, Brooks averaged 5.2 yards per carry, while rushing for 607 yards and four touchdowns, while hauling in 19 receptions for 131 yards and three TD’s.

The Oceanside, California native had four career 100-yard rushing games, including UC Davis (197), Illinois (120), and UCLA (111) in 2019 and 131 yards in 2021 against rival Stanford.

He changed his last name from Brown to Brooks after the 2020 campaign and before the 2021 season in honor of his mother by taking her maiden name.

Brooks and the Cougars open their 2022 schedule on the road against the USF Bulls on September 3.
