PROVO, Utah – Cooper Legas used his legs to take over as Utah State drove 68 yards for an opening possession score against the No. 19 Cougars.

Utah State (1-3, 0-1) is looking to end a three game losing streak as they face the No. 19 BYU Cougars (3-1) at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Thursday, September 29.

Making the first start of his career, the junior quarterback ran for 17 yards including a seven-yard rushing score to give the Aggies a 7-0 lead after their first drive of the game. Legas also completed three passes on the drive for 20 yards through the air.

Calvin Tyler Jr. added 31 yards on four carries and caught a ball for one yard. Brian Cobbs reeled in two Legas passes for 19 yards.

Preview

Utah State is struggling at 1-3 and searching for immediate answers. The Cougars came into tonight’s matchup ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and are 3-1 overall on the year.

There’s no game that the Aggies would love to circle the wagons for than the Wagon Wheel rivalry game against BYU. Unfortunately for the Aggies, shortly before kickoff reports surfaced that starting quarterback Logan Bonner would miss tonight’s game. Bonner was seen in a walking boot prior to kickoff.

Junior quarterback Cooper Legas made his first career start with Bonner out.

Prior to tonight, Legas has seen action in two games this season. He’s thrown for 40 yards and a pick on 7/17 passing. He’s also run for 20 yards on seven carries. During his college career, Legas has thrown for a total of 211 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions with a 48.6 completion percentage.

With this being the final scheduled game between the two schools as BYU transitions into the Big-12 conference era, Utah State remains committed to continuing the tradition.
