Utah Valley Suffers Heartbreaking Loss To Wake Forest In OT

OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley Wolverines went to ACC country and battled but ultimately fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 68-65 in overtime.

With 3:37 left in the second half, Utah Valley held a 57-53 lead over Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons drilled two three-pointers to take a 59-57 lead with 2:02 remaining in regulation. Trey Woodbury tied the game with a jumper with 57 seconds left. Both teams had chances to win the game but it went to overtime.

Justin Harmon hit a jumper for the first bucket in overtime. Blaze Nield added a pair of free throws to give the Wolverines a 63-59 lead with 3:48 left in overtime. Tyree Appleby answered with two free throws for Wake Forest, followed by a layup by Andrew Carr to tie the game.

Appleby gave the Demon Deacons the lead with a layup with 25 seconds left. Woodbury drilled a midrange jumper to tie the game with four seconds left. Wake Forest called a timeout and threw the ball the full length of the court to Matthew Marsh, who quickly passed to Appleby for a three-pointer with 0.4 seconds left. Woodbury missed the fullcourt heave that would’ve tied the game.

Harmon led the Wolverines with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Le’Tre Darthard chipped in 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 3-for-7 from the three-point line. Aziz Bandaogo nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with nine points, 17 rebounds, and three blocks.

Appleby led the Demon Deacons with 23 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Andrew Carr recorded 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Daivien Williamson added 10 points.

Utah Valley dropped their record to 2-2 on the season with wins over Western Colorado and Northern Arizona. They will stay on the road and head south to the Jamaica Classic in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The Wolverines will face Morgan State on Friday, November 18 at 5:00 p.m. MT on HBCUgo. They will play one more game in the Jamaica Classic on Sunday, November 20 with game time and opponent to be determined.
