BYU basketball will have a new starting lineup against the TCU Horned Frogs.

Head coach Kevin Young announced during his pregame radio chat on the BYU Sports Network (heard on KSL NewsRadio) that he would be starting Trevin Knell to replace Dallin Hall.

Hall would then come off the bench.

Egor Demin, Trevin Knell, Richie Saunders, Kanon Catchings, and Keba Keita will be BYU’s starting five against TCU.

The Cougars have lost their last two games and have yet to win a true road game this season.

Young said the lineup change centers around “getting our groupings right.” In his pregame conversation, the first-year head coach noted that he liked what he had seen from Dallin Hall in recent games when paired with Fousseyni Traore at the five.

BYU enters the TCU game as a slight road favorite over the Horned Frogs.

The Cougars are 10-4 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 play and are currently projected outside of Bracketology forecasts.

Egor Demin had 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field, along with six assists and two steals in the loss to Texas Tech. It was the first game Demin scored in double-figures since November 28 against Ole Miss.

Some of Dallin Hall’s best offensive performances this season have come when Demin was out in December due to a knee contusion injury. The same can be said for Demin’s best performances this season when Hall navigated a toe injury to open the year.

Trevin Knell joins the starting five

Earlier in the week, Kevin Young said to the media that Trevin Knell “needs to play more minutes.” Young added, “It’s something I’m mindful of. He needs to be out there more.”

Knell scored 12 points last Saturday in BYU’s road loss at Houston. He knocked down four threes off the bench. Knell has started seven games this season. BYU is 7-0 in those games.
