Kalani Sitake Says Jojo Phillips Is “Due For A Breakout Year”

SALT LAKE CITY – BYU wide receiver Jojo Phillips stepped into a bigger role for the Cougars last year and could be set up to do the same thing in 2025.

Head coach Kalani Sitake said that Phillips will get more looks in the offense next season and hinted toward a potential breakout season in year three.

“Jojo Phillips is fast, athletic, tall, and long,” Sitake said. “Combine that with the ability to go get the ball. He can make big plays on deep routes, but it’s all the other things he does well. He’s a great route runner. I think he’s due for a breakout year. He had a great spring ball. I’m just looking forward to the things he can do for us with more reps and more opportunities. He’s willing to do all of the little things, too. He’s up for any challenge. He’s got a lot of things going for him.”

About BYU’s Jojo Phillips

Phillips is a redshirt sophomore wide receiver from Lancaster, California.

Coming out of Sierra Canyon High School, Phillips was a three-star prospect and ranked as a top-100 recruit in the state of California. As a senior, he recorded 586 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2022.

In his first year with the Cougars, Phillips played in three games and reeled in one reception for five yards and a touchdown.

Last season, he played in 13 games with two starts. Phillips finished his second season with 10 receptions for 211 yards and two touchdowns.
