PROVO, Utah – The University of Utah Gymnastics team knocked off the BYU Cougars 197.250-196.475 at the Marriott Center.

Utah won their 40th straight meet against their rival BYU but the Cougars put up a fight.

The Red Rocks never trailed but they didn’t have any room for error as they entered their final event.

BYU nailed their beam set in the third rotation, six Ute beam workers easily hit all of their routines. Utah freshman Adrienne Randall had the best performance with a 9.875 from the No. 5 position.

That performance clinched the win before MyKayla Skinner had her routine and recorded a school-record 118th routine without a fall.

“We didn’t start the meet the way we wanted (on bars), but bounced back with an amazing vault, which gave us momentum heading into floor and beam,” said co-head coach Tom Farden “I was pleased that we finished with a really good beam set under pressure on road in front of a big, loud crowd.”

The Red Rocks have hit 197 points in their first two meets for the first time in school history.

Skinner led the Utes by winning the vault with a career-tying 9.975, bars with a 9.875, floor with 9.96 and a 39.600 in the all-around.

The Red Rocks will face Oregon State in Corvallis on Saturday, January 19 at 3 p.m.
