Controversial No-Call Has Major Impact On RSL Game

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A conflicting pair of calls worked against Real Salt Lake in a 2-1 loss against LAFC.
After RSL’s Damir Kreilach buried a penalty kick to put the visiting team up 1-0 in the 35th minute, LAFC’s Diego Rossi took a deflected pass and snuck it past Nick Rimando for the equalizing goal. It appeared that the pass was intended for a offsides LAFC player, but it was deflected and sent in Diego Rossi’s direction and ended up in RSL’s goal.

RSL’s Sebastian Saucedo took advantage of a similar play in the second half and found the back of the net after a pass from Kreilach bounced off a diving LAFC defender and arrived at Bofo’s feet, giving him the opportunity to bury it in goal.
However, after VAR replay it was ruled no goal due to Saucedo’s being offsides at the time of the pass.
While it appeared to be a similar play that resulted in Rossi’s goal earlier in the game, the ruling against the visitors drew outrage from RSL.
It seemed that RSL would survive the controversial decision and still take a point with a draw, but LAFC’s Walker Zimmerman scored a vital goal in stoppage time to deny the visiting time from sneaking away with a decision.
RSL lost 2-1.
