NEW ORLEANS, La. – Former BYU and current New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Taysom Hill beat fellow Saints QBs Drew Brees and Teddy Bridgewater in a home run derby competition.

Throughout New Orleans’ training camp the Saints QBs have been participating in a variety of games competing against one another.

For Wednesday’s competition, each QB was equipped with a custom baseball bat for the challenge. The collegiate-colored bats featured the name of the quarterback as well as the name of the mascot for the university they attended. Hill’s BYU-themed bat read, “Handcrafted for Taysom Hill. Cougar Custom Cut.”

The QBs took turns taking five pitches from each other. Instead of actual baseballs, the players hit tennis ball inside their indoor practice facility. The balls were required to stay within the football field of play. No score was awarded for hits that landed out of bounds.

In the video, Drew Brees described the competition as more of a, “distance derby.”

After the five pitches, the distance of all hits was added. The person with the highest total was declared the winner.

Hill, being the youngest, went first. All five hits landed in the field of play for a total score of 303 yards.

Bridgewater went next and tallied a low score of 95.

The veteran of the group, Brees, went last. Most of his hits went for distance, but he was unable to best Hill. He placed second with a score of 269 yards.

Hill said that it had “been a while” since he last played baseball, but it didn’t matter for this challenge.

This was Hill’s fourth victory of the #SaintsQB challenges of the offseason.

After the victory, Hill gave his alma mater a shoutout in his victory speech, while showing off his BYU bat.

“The winning bat,” he said. “Cougars. Let’s go, baby.”
